Let’s welcome Curious Setting contributor Tammy David, who flew to Singapore to cover the launch of new art hub Gillman Barracks.

Rejoice frequent visitors of Singapore!
There’s another activity to add to your list of things to do that does not involve food, Orchard Road sales associates or live animals (talkin’ about you, rowdy concert goers). Singapore’s latest destination (to remind us about their fabulous GDP and another place to “invest” on) is the Gillman Barracks.
Dubbed by many publications as the “contemporary art center of Asia,” The Gillman Barracks used to be a — you guessed it — British military hub during the ’30s and now the 6.4-hectare development currently houses 13 of the best galleries in the world including Silverlens Gallery and the Drawing Room from Manila.
The new art center recently opened its gates to the public last September and those who attended were treated to exhibitions featuring Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara, Annie Leibovitz and, my personal favorite, Edward Burtynsky.
For those who don’t appreciate art or refuse to pay entrance to the fun size Universal studios, the beautiful and historic complex itself is something worth instagramming (or the cardio time to burn the rice consumed from that second plate of chicken rice).
